Curse you, gut check.
Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 10:11PM I was contacted recently by a member of the news media. A request for an interview. And guess what? I declined. Gosh, a couple of years ago I would have jumped at the chance, wouldn't I?
But remember what I said the other day about showing up at Lancaster University and just knowing it wasn't right for me? Same thing here. The reporter wanted to talk about Enron. It's not that I mind talking about Enron; you know that. But I'd rather have a face-to-face conversation with my audience. I would rather be able to participate in the ebb and flow of that conversation.
It would have been publicity for WHOSS, for OWSE, for me. P.T. Barnum is famous for having said there is no such thing as bad publicity. I disagree, however. It's bad if it prevents you from looking in the mirror. It's bad if it means you aren't being true to yourself.
With that in mind, I turned down the request. Maybe I'll regret it someday.
But I don't think so.
