Why didn't I think of that?
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 8:46PM I've debated whether or not to share this with you. Looks like I've made a decision.
My job (the one that requires me to commute each weekday) requires a good deal of writing. Funny, right? Some of it is fairly technical; some of it is slightly technical; some of it is purely creative.
I really like my job.
Anyway, last week or so, I had to do a bit of what I would classify as technical writing. I solicited input from three, disparate groups at the company in order to craft a brief yet effective response to an inquiry about a program we might like to develop. This was no small task.
I loved it.
I gathered the information, wrangled and wrenched and wrought it all together and then presented it to each person who had provided input. Two of the three (the two who had established, working relationships with me) said, "Yes." The third, who had no idea who I was and had likely never heard of me before that day offered the following feedback:
"The concept is somewhat confusing. Perhaps you could get a writer to help you with this."
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!
Oh, it was awesome. Because I'm sure it couldn't be the confusing concept, or the fact that we were trying to cram three totally different aspects of an organization into one small package -- with very little information to go on. Nah. Must have been the writing.
I thanked her for her suggestion and passed the response I had written along to my boss.
He liked it.
