Support, of a sort.

Turns out I am not alone in my dislike for Facebook. Evidently it is the most-hated website (oh, that feels really, really good to type as one word) on the planet.

And yet it is the most popular website on the planet, too. What does that tell us about ourselves? I will try to come up with three things:

1. We are fickle.
2. We are prone to settling.
3. We like to complain.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Now I will break down each of those three things:

We are fickle. What we love one day, we are very likely to hate within a week. It's all about "What have you done for me lately?"

We are prone to settling. Sure, we know there could probably be a better way to manage our information and relationships. But Facebook is there--and in fact it probably is better than the last thing for which we settled.

We like to complain. Oh, boy, how we like to complain. No matter how vocally we demand something, once it fails to meet a basic need, we let it rip. We will tell everyone within blogging distance how horrible it is. Funny thing here is that people probably use Facebook to complain about Facebook.

You know why I hate Facebook, but for the new readers I will sum it up thusly: It discourages thought before action. It's simply too damned convenient. (Plus I still don't understand how the hell it works, but that's a different matter.)
