But it's my name.
Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 6:05AM Rememer The Crucible? The story of the Salem Witch Hunt--er, that is--Trials? Bunch of folks accused of witchcraft by some vengeance-minded teenagers (of all people). It all whipped into a tremendous frenzy and many innocent people were executed.
Daniel Day-Lewis was simply delightful in the 1996 film. Ah, Daniel Day-Lewis....
Oh, those Salem Witch Trials. Yeah, Erin; we remember The Crucible.
Good. Now, if you've been following me for any length of time (wonder what that really means; it should be one word "foranylengthoftime.")....
If you've been following me foranylengthoftime, you'll know that I enjoy Al Gore. More specifically, I enjoy busting on him, because I find him to be a fairly comical figure. I'm not so much of fan of Al Gore as I am a fan of poking fun at his antics. (And, here again, I'd like to save the environment and the planet, too, so as ever, I am doing that thing where I don't totally pick a side. I guess you could say I'm not letting my personal feelings about the messenger turn me against the message.)
But now a Portland, Ore. woman has accused him of naughty behavior. I'm sure someone else has already labled her something like "An Inconvenient Masseuse," or some such term. So I won't do that. Except that I just did. I won't do it again.
No, the point I want to make here is that, whether he did what she accused him of doing (and the local DA doesn't believe there is sufficient evidence that he did), or whether he didn't, it doesn't matter anymore. He has been accused, and in our society accusation = conviction.
I will say that again. In our society accusation = conviction.
And it just gets worse if you try to defend yourself. That really makes them mad. By them I mean anyone who stands to gain from your misfortune.
So, you know; watch out, everybody. As for me, I'll be having a nice, long chat with my girls this weekend about the terrible power of gossip.
Media = Bad

Consider this a follow-up. My browser at work is more than seven years old, and so I cannot use it to make changes to my blog. There's some sort of strange irony involved here, but I don't have time to explore it right now.
Also consider me a harbinger of doom. The Portland authorities have reopened their investigation into the allegations against Mr. Gore. Strange timing, don't you think?
I stand by my previous statement regarding accusations and assumptions of guilt. I will take any results of the investigation with some serious salt.

Well, I hadn't heard "An Inconvenient Masseuse" until just now, and it cracked me up.
Happy to oblige! Perhaps I should slap a Trademark (or Servicemark might be more appropriate) on that sucker.
