Did you hear? The AP caved.

Yeah, you'd think this was going to be something about journalistic integrity...but you'd be wrong.

The Associated Press has revised its guideline for the term "website." For years and years and years, the guideline was "Web site." That's right. "Web" was capitalized, and the term was broken into two words. It made about as much sense as their guideline for "dot.com." Um, I'm no expert (oh, hold the phone; I think maybe I am), but that looks like it would be pronounced, "Dot-dot-com."

But I digress. What else is new?

According to this article, the AP has changed its mind. I consider it a victory for common sense, even though it has been difficult for me to make the switch. I am bound by convention when it comes to certain things. And unbound by convention when it comes to others. I'll leave it up to the imagination of my clever readers to decide which is which.

For tonight, however, we can all rest easy. Website is now website instead of Web site. As for dot.com, well, let's see...oh, double hold the phone! It's been changed, too. It is now "dot-com."

Ah, hope springs eternal.

I was thrilled that we made the executive decision over here to go with "website" long before the AP came out with this nice bit of common sense. No need to hold the phone, after all, I am not an expert, but it was gratifying.

Who says you're not an expert? Who? Do I need to make a phone call?
