DYS!
Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 8:57AM That's an abbreviation (no, not an acronym, as explained here*) for "Damn you, Skype!" Stasa and I type these three letters at least 10 times a day, each, as we are chatting with each other online.
Permit me to illustrate:
The leters usually follo wa snetnce like this. <enter>
DYS! <enter>
At issue, of course, is the fact that each of us is typing way too fast. We are both excellent spellers, I assure you. We have fooled ourselves into believing that, simply because the delivery mechanism for our words is instantaneous, we must quicken our own pace to keep up with it. In short, we should both SETTLE DOWN.
But we can't! I don't like it; not one little bit. I have fallen into the same trap I bemoan in the domain of Facebook and Twitter and whatever else exists that encourages us to follow the order of ready, fire, aim.
I'm disappointed in myself. Deeply, deeply disappointed. Perhaps there is a support group for people like me.
No doubt I will find it on Facebook.
Sigh.
* Although I suppose one could make the argument that it's as much a word as NASA or NORAD. Huh. Oh...damn you, Skype! You have foiled me once again!
