My daughter is reading Animal Farm for school. It is 145 pages long. Looks to be about a 12-point font, double spaced. I do not believe it is classified as a novella, although I could be wrong.

You know where I'm headed with this, don't you?

That is nowhere near 70,000 words. WHOSS is 226 (or so) pages long and around 72,000 words. That comes out to roughly 300 words per page, on average. This would make Animal Farm some 43,000 words long. Or so.

I realize that I am no George Orwell. But neither was he, at the time. You know?

I've decided that, rather than getting myself all worked up about this, I'll take some comfort in it, instead. I will keep writing books of what I consider to be the right length, and then we will just see how it goes.
