Ten-thousand maniacs.
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10:31PM That's essentially what it's going to take, right? Ten-thousand people to buy WHOSS.
I'd like to ponder that figure, if you don't mind.
Ten-thousand is roughly one-tenth the population of The Woodlands. Oh, I guess we're The Woodlands Township now. I sort of missed that change. Ten-thousand is not even big enough to register as a percentage of the population of Houston. I think (playing statistician now) that I mean it's not statistically significant in that sample. Although it certainly is to my sample. Whitman's Dark Chocolate Sampler. Mmmmmm.
Where was I? Oh, yes.
The Ten Thousand was also the name of a group of mercenary units in ancient Persia. They were mostly Greeks. I'm not sure why that's significant, but Wikipedia saw fit to make mention.
And then there's this: Ten Thousand Cents. It's a digital artwork project to create an image of a $100 bill. Okay.
So, here's what I'm thinking. If Cyrus the Younger could amass a force of 10,000 mercenaries back in 401 B.C.--completely without the benefit of Facebook or Twitter--it seems to me I should be able to sell 10,000 copies of WHOSS.
Yes? Good. We're all agreed. That's very important to me; that you're all on board with this. So, blog it, write it on your walls, whatever. I'll put it on my fan page, and we'll see what happens.
Let's meet back here next week and see how it's gone.
