Not exactly, and yet completely.

An amendment to something I wrote earlier, about the writing process. I stated that material finds me, rather than vice versa. Well...sort of. I think it might be more accurate, or at least more complete, to say that I notice weird things. Or that weird things present themselves to me.

What does that mean? Dunno. Perhaps an example is in order. I might be sitting around with a bunch of friends, chatting about the weekend or politics or what we're having for dinner. A few days later, one of those same friends might say, "Remember when we were talking about the weekend, and you said you had no plans, and then I asked what you were making for dinner, and you said, 'turkey meatloaf' and I said that sounded good?"

And I will think for a little while. And think some more. And then some more. And then I'll say, "Was that the day the blue Dodge came zipping down the street, and the people at the end had had mulch delivered, so the air smelled funny, and your son was swinging a golf club at the crape myrtle?"

And my friend will just shake her head and say, "Okay. Yes. That day."

It's sort of like that.
