Aye, 'tis madness.

And I suppose there's some method to it. We did not conduct another screening of the Spring Break Film Festival last night, because I had forgotten about basketball.

(You might be tempted to ask how, after all these years, I could do such a thing, but it's surprisingly easy.)

I actually used to enjoy the NCAA basketball tournament. One year, I even entered a pool. I went 16-0 the first day. It was awesome. It all fell apart after that.

I don't enjoy it so much anymore. It's overdone, like most things these days. We have "bracketologists" filling up air time with the most ridiculous analyses. I even saw a few guys on ESPN the other morning completing brackets with the greatest sitcoms of all time. George Wendt (Norm!) and some other dude, with an ESPN flunky as mediator. In a startling upset, Wendt actually picked Seinfeld over Cheers.

And you know what? Just as with the NCAA tourney, it didn't matter that Seinfeld beat Cheers, because The Simpsons won in the end.

I am just so disturbed that The Simpsons could beat Seinfeld that I've completely gotten over the fact that my two teams lost on Thursday and are out of the tournament!

And another thing, the NCAA really screwed up our visit to New Orleans last weekend. First it was the motorcycle cops blaring their sirens and scaring the heck outta my girl as they escorted busloads of teams to their hotels ... followed closely by the freakin' around-the-block lines forming at the doors of my favorite restaurants. Sorry Bourbon House. Maybe we can enjoy the oysters on the halfshell with champagne-caviar sauce some other time when it's not four deep at the bar...
