Oh. No. Wait. That's not true.
Actually, I lit a cigarette, sat up in bed and said, "What do you mean?"
Wait, wait, wait. That's not true either. I don't smoke....
Anyway, the point here is that I don't ever go looking for material. It sort of finds me. Like those shoes on the road. You're simply not going to believe the story I've created out of them. Out of nothing, really.
I can't tell you how much fun it is. To observe human nature in action, from a distance great or small, and then make up a reason for it. To put a context around it.
I've been watching American Idol lately. I know. I know. But at least I'm honest about it. One of the things the judges keep mentioning to these hopeful contestants is the importance of "knowing who you are."
I think I have that going for me. Which is nice.
