Well, what have we done?
Sunday, December 26, 2010 at 5:57PM It's winding down on us again, the year.
(By the way, I saw another strange teachers' supply store sign last week. Headline: West Rd. Teacher's Supply. Subhead: "Everyone welcome!" What the hell? What's with the quotation marks? Are they quoting something the owner once said; something that sounded like a good thing to put on their sign? Or are they teasing, like when we do "air quotes" to indicate that something is only superficially what we are saying it is? Whichever it is, they are certainly excited about it; what with the exclamation point and all.)
Anyway, 2010 is nearly in the can, and of course that means it's time to reflect on the 12 months that have just passed and see how we feel about them. I guess I accomplished some things. But there is a huge, glaring gap in my list, and I'm not happy about it. I went back to work fulltime, after an eight-year break. That's pretty big. I ran 10 miles, consecutively, on the same day and in pretty good time. That's also pretty big. I'm proud of those two things.
But, I did not publish another book. This concerns me. Sure, it's just one year. But you know how it is. Soon it will be two years and then three. And then I'll look back on it all and wonder what the point was of that first book. I couldn't even manage to get Smith Street onto Kindle. I'm disappointed in myself.
I will try to do better next year.
