Query of evolution.
Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 7:04AM The following headline appeared on MSNBC.com this morning:
"Lenders threaten to auction Olympics site"
You know what I thought, right? The image that leapt to mind was the page that appears when you visit a URL that is owned but unused--and for sale. So, I thought, "Man! You'd think the tech people would have locked that down well in advance. And what do these so-called 'lenders' have to do with it? Do they mean Lenders Bagels?? Are they sponsoring the Games?" (with a capital G, of course)
I clicked the headline to read the article.
Ohhhhhhh....that kind of site. Bummer. Sad sign of economic times, and all that.
But I tell you, the Internet has done all kinds of strange things to our language. I'm not saying they're bad, but they sure are strange. Language has been evolving since it was born, after all.
It was good for a little self-directed, early-morning chuckle.
