The best part.

Who knew this would be the best part? You'd think the best part of publishing a book would be the publishing part. You'd be wrong.

My friend and graphic designer genius, Stephen Cullar-Ledford, sent me the final cover design last night. It included photo credits. Now, I don't want to get all sappy on you (I have a reputation as a bit of a cynic to uphold), but when I saw the names of two good friends on that line, it did something to me.

Wow. Sure, I thank both of them in the acknowledgments section. Yeah, yeah. But--and I never realized this until last night when I couldn't sleep because of it--the cover is different. Even the back cover. What do people do when they pick up a book for perusal? They flip it over to read the back; that's what they do.

So, when people flip my book over to read the back, if they read all the way to the bottom (and they will, because this cover is really something; it should be framed and hung in a design museum), they will see the names of two people who helped me achieve this dream. And then, inside, they will see the names of even more.

And that is the best part.

I can't wait to get it in my hot little hands. While I've been privy to a preview, actually holding your book is going to be something else entirely.
