Proof!

If you've read my Q&A (go on; I'll wait for you)....

If you've read my Q&A, you may have noticed something about how I remember very strange details about situations and experiences, or some such wording. I had actual, real-time confirmation of this fact today and thought I would share it.

An unexpectedly pleasant bonus that has come of the whole book thing is that I've been reconnecting with people I haven't talked to in years. Years! (When I was a little kid and would hear people talking about things that had happened 20 years in the past, I remember feeling so envious. "Someday," I thought to myself, "I'll be able to remember things that happened 20 years ago." So, now I do. Turns out it mostly just means I'm old.)

Anyway, I've been reconnecting with lots of people. One of those people is a guy from high school, who also ended up being a guy from college and a guy from work (at college). We were reminiscing over e-mail today about our former boss (with whom we have also both recently reconnected) and how fun it was to have started up the Liberal Arts Career Services Center at UT.

And then I wrote about the time we had all gone to the boss' house for dinner and what fun that was.

And he wrote back, "What?"

And I wrote back, "Yeah. She served guacamole and it had ground chili powder on it, and I'd never seen guacamole with ground chili powder, and then we played Scattergories and when the letter was B and the category was food, another co-worker hollered out "halupkies" and we all just looked at her like she was nuts."

And then he wrote back...oh, no. Wait. He didn't. Odd....

Anyway, the point is that I remember strange things. And while that might seem kind of cool, it's actually embarrassing, because it implies that these things were somehow more significant to me than they were to anyone else involved. I'm not sure that's entirely true. I just think I'm wired wrong. Perhaps there is a support group for people like me.

But beyond the embarrassment, I am jazzed because now I have another whole experience that I can use in some future story. I even have the basis for a really funny character. Or three.

And, yes, I am aware of the third takeaway from this experience. We were really, really lame. Yeah....

Oh, and, buy my book! Tell other people to buy my book! Just a few more days to pick it up for $12.95.
